About Chhupa Tax
Most people know roughly what income tax they pay. Almost nobody knows the rest — the excise inside a litre of petrol, the GST inside a food order, the stamp duty on a flat, the road tax on a car, the professional tax on a payslip. Chhupa Tax adds all of it up for one financial year and shows you a single number.
Where your data lives
On your phone, in the browser's own storage, and nowhere else. There is no account, no sign-in and no server holding your entries. The app works with the network switched off, and you can write the whole thing to a backup file any time — that file goes only where you send it.
If you leave usage stats on, the app sends the name of the thing you did — added an entry, opened share — a word for its kind, and a random number for the install. Never an amount, never what you bought, never your salary. You can switch it off in Settings.
Where the rates come from
Central excise on fuel from the excise notifications, checked against PPAC and IOCL pump prices. GST from the Council's own schedule — the 2.0 rates that took effect on 22 September 2025. State VAT, road tax and stamp duty from the state portals. Every rate carries the date it was last checked, and every page here prints it.
They are close, not exact. A pump price moves daily and a state can change VAT overnight; treat the numbers as a good estimate of what you paid, not as a receipt.
What it does not do
It does not file anything for you, it does not recommend an investment or a product, and it does not tell you what you ought to buy. It computes, and it compares. That is the whole of it.
Who made it
One person, in the open, because the number was surprising and nothing showed it.
Questions people ask
Does Chhupa Tax send my income or spending anywhere?
No. Entries, salary figures and amounts stay in your phone’s own storage. The app has no account and no server for your data, and it works offline.
Is it free?
Yes, and there are no ads, no entry limits and no paid tier.
How accurate are the numbers?
Close, not exact. Rates are dated and sourced from the notifications and state portals, but pump prices move daily and state levies change, so the total is a good estimate rather than a statement of account.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Open it and start; nothing is asked of you.

What do you pay in a whole year?
This page answers one question. The app adds up all of it — income tax and the tax hidden inside petrol, food orders, bills and big purchases — for the financial year so far. No account, and your entries stay on your phone.
